Weeklong Life with Audiography

New Delhi: “It was a unique and mind blowing experience, to make a small drama project within a short period”. This was an instant statement made by 3 participants who came for the one week short term audiography course held at NISCORT in mid October 2010.

A week long short term audiography course was organized by NISCORT, under the guidance of Fr. Dejus, which started on October 18. The campus saw 3 new faces turn up for the special technical course on “Basic Audio Recording”. Two sisters from the congregation of Missionaries of Jesus from Jalandhar Diocese, Punjab and a boy from Tamilnadu were the participants for the same.

The short course included, Concept of sound, Amplifiers and Mixtures, Microphone and sound path, Recording basics, Introduction to Pro Tools and Practical Exercise. Sr. Maria MJ, in charge of the aspirants in her congregation told, “I am so privileged to come over here for this course, I thank NISCORT for all the arrangements and hospitality. This will surely help in my ministry. If my congregation allows me, I would join for the full time course”.

The course continued from Monday to Friday, which included a small project. They came up with one song and one drama production. A singer and as a casio player, Sr. Bernadette was happy to be a part of this. As her ministry, she was a part of Jesus Youth and now active in the pastoral field in the Diocese of Jalandhar. It is her passion to lead the choir in the cathedral and coordinate the youth. “I thank Jesus and my congregation for providing this opportunity, the course will help me to be more effective in my ministry as I think to compose songs in future”, was the grateful words of her.

Edmond Robin a multimedia diploma holder from Tamilnadu was the third member who joined for this course along with the two sisters. He currently works as an office in charge in one of the English medium school in Jammu and Kashmir. His passion to be an editor landed him here. “I am interested in editing and wish to build up my career in Kollywood, the Tamil film industry as an editor”, was an exciting comment given by Robin who also wishes to continue video production course in near future.

All the three expressed the desires to continue for the longer period of time. Within this short period the practical exercise of producing one song and one drama was all exciting, giving them hands on training. Working with the editing software and use of special sound effects was a new and memorable experience to be cherished was exclaimed by three of them.

CWG Celebration at NISCORT

Delhi New: The 123 World Around session was held to mark the Common Wealth Games, Presentation Ceremony, on 22 October 2010 at 2 pm. in the basement hall of NISCORT. Anjali a first year student introduced about the programme and welcomed the Director Rev. Fr. Jude to deliver the inaugural address. In a welcoming note Fr. Jude highlighted on the just completed common wealth games, saying “this happens once in our life time, so we were the part of the golden opportunity; the games created an enthusiastic spirit to be faster, stronger, and higher in the minds of all the athletics”. He continued, “Today, we celebrate the spirit of excellence and a feeling of oneness”.

It was Fr. John, the Dean of studies, who welcomed and introduced the chief guest of the day Mr. E.S. Issac, Director of sports Division, Doordarshan, New-Delhi. This followed with the sharing of Jenny, Elvy, Sr. Anu, Sr. Jisty, Sr. Alphonsa, Fr. Ramesh and Dhananjaya, the seven selected reporters, for the Australian Games News Agency, Infostrada, who told us about their personal and professional experiences on the XIX Common Wealth Games.
To mark the CWG, earlier NISCORT arranged a competition. The students came up with human interest stories related to the same during the historic mega event, which were later posted to the http://niscortforum.blogspot.com. Almost all the students took part in this competition through writing, video, audio production, and photo presentation. These were keenly evaluated by the guides and staffs as well. This was equally appreciated and felt to continue by the students and teachers.

Chief Guest, Mr. E. S. Issac, the Director of Sports Division, Doordarshan New-Delhi shared his experience related to the broadcast of the event and related matter to this. This was noted by the students. During the course of his address he emphasized the students on the parameter of listing, speaking, reading, and writing which are crucial and essential for a media student. He presented broadcast handbooks on Doordarshan to our institution.

The session came to an end with prize distribution to the winners. Deiphi and Christina were jointly announced as first winner for the human interest story while Pangam came as the second winner. It was Fr. Shyju who kept us watch his winning photo entry which won the first prize, again Deiphy along with Binai were placed second for their photo entry. It was yet again Fr. John’s term who summed up the programme and thanked one and all equally for making the CWG season a new change of thought in the NISCORT premise. This followed by a get-together over tea and snacks.

CWG: A CLOSE VIEW “Tale of a Budding Journalist”

Dhananjaya Senapati
New-Delhi:  “It is just like a dream come true to work with an international news agency as a reporter for the XIX CWG-2010”, was a joyful proclamation given by Dhananjay Senapati an Audio Visual Communication student of NISCORT. Even, after the completion of his contract to the Games News Service (GNS) an Australia based news agency, he still feels it like a day dream, not sure of what he did was actually a reality.

It all begun just with a simple test to qualify and submit a CV to the agency, and then the final processing at Press Club of India; later the conformation news of selection to be a member of an international crew, among the 130 reporters out of the 57 from India for the Infostrada.com. Doubt was ruling although; but the hope was high to meet the unseen challenges.  On September 24, all the fellow reporters were gathered at the Main Media Centre (MMC) at Pragati Maidan to undergo a practical session prior to the event. Here, the respective posts and venues were allotted at our disposal; I landed up in Indira Gandhi Stadium as Pigeon-hole Coordinator, where Thomas Schoneiel a German reporter was the coordinator for the wrestling event. The entire task was to cover the press conferences, interviews with the winners, flash-quote reporting and handing over all the data to the Central Editorial Team; who, then publish it in Info System for the dissemination to the media.

Dhanajaya Senapati
In the beginning it all looked like mess, going around, to collect results, schedule, daily review and preview, press conference highlights, flash quote, media communication, official communication, session review and preview, entry list, statistic data and print result distribution (PRD), and copying it all to master folder and assist the journalists by handing them the data. Thanks to Hairul Sukaime, the general manager GNS, whose constant boosting, support and guidance made me feel comfortable and relax to keep pace with my job. My event was scheduled from 9am to 7pm from October 5 to October 10. It was a discipline to be in the venue at the event site before 90 minutes of the event and same way vacate the site after 90 minutes from the competition of the event. I did not know the abcd of wrestling, but it is interesting and I can study the game since I had a close view of this in this CWG. The metro travel and the bus service by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) were absolutely free, that took to the event venue. It was also enjoyable to share food and snacks along with national and international repute journalists in media langue.

I am happy that I have been a part of this historic event. Once again, I am thankful to GNS and its team who trusted me and made me feel as a member to them. Given a chance, I would surely look forward to work with the same group who taught me to do a right job exactly and unbiasly and provided an international platform to develop my profile. I wish all the best to GNS and everybody related to this. May God bless all.

A Critical Assessment of Preamble of Indian Constitution

Constitution of India is the supreme law of India. It was passed by the Constituent Assembly on 26 November 1949; it came into effect on 26 January 1950.  Since then India celebrates the adoption of the constitution on 26 January each year as Republic Day. It is the longest written constitution of any sovereign country in the world, till date, containing 444 articles in 22 parts, 12 schedules and 94 amendments.

The preface of the India Constitution is commonly known as the Preamble. This stands out declaring the Union of India to be a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic, assuring its citizens of justice, equality, and liberty and, to promote among them all, fraternity.

Well, the framers of the Constitutions took at most care while drafting it. But in my view I would say that this has been not happening the way they envisaged. Today, if we talk, every aspect of ones life is in danger. Political, or socio-economic or religious life, nothing is considered as safe in the present scenario of our country. The prime aspect of the Preamble is overthrown by the so called ruler of the country. Communal violence, religious unrest and rise up of Terrorism, Maoism and Naxalism have been major issues of discussion in everyday’s media. The peace has turned into nightmare. The representative of mass is the corrupt and unjust in the democratic and federal system of government. The implementation of the supreme law has failed to provide peace and security from the anti social elements. The decades long pending cases of Kashmir, Ayodhya and Bhopal gas tragedy is just a few examples to this. The supreme law should clear all by providing free and fair final verdict to be accepted by all. If the supreme law is not implemented unbiasly and timely then the situation would boil up urging the people to wage war against individual, community, state and religion at last.

CWG: Crowd, Where did it Go?

New Delhi: Very truly proves its stand, as it In spite of XIX CWG-2010 in India; Cricket is said to be the Religion of India becoming the CWG: Commonly Watched Game. I am forced to say this because of the uncommon experience; to witness the athletes partaking in the events held in Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, hardly could provided a boosting spirit due to its thinner crowed. I was taken aback, as I compared to the 60,000 thickly populated audiences on the opening evening, reducing almost to 6,000, a one tenth, as I went to witness the historic event as a proud Indian in one of these days.

The security was unquestionable, as you have to pass through number of passages guarded by types of security personnel along with the installation of the metal detector. Not even a water bottle was spared, along with the eagerly waiting person to get in to the stadium, to quench his/her thirst while cheering for the favorite athlete in the home venue. This kept many to turn out, as the prices were sky high for the snacks and water bottle inside the stadium with out any option of free drinking water. Even before falling on the line that led to the ticket counter, two young men came approaching to sell their tickets as they were informed that they would not be allowed to carry their bags inside the stadium. It was a hard time for them to turn their sweet dreams into nightmare. It was even reportedly come in the news that the Organizing Committee has sold out ticket for every event; while people complained of the mismanagement to own a ticket.

Slowly, the Indians are taking relief from the cricket fever: with CWG they even found out the substitute to it. The country is slowly opening up to be sports centric. The young India is finding interest in field, track and ring events. Now the sport has become a growing culture. Unless we nurture and support the same, we can not compete with the countries like Australia, America, China, Canada and England who always top in the medal tally surpassing India in different international events. This could be wisely handled by the organizing committee by bringing down the ticket price and making it available in different places in different mode with free and fair management. Otherwise, the crowd will be the same, always flocking to the cricket venue. I do not talk something against cricket, but why the XIX CWG-2010 could not gather a remarkable crowd in spite of being held for the first time in India with much hump and pump. But, in the case with cricket; it is unthinkable to go unnoticed where the crowd is simply mad to join the match either it is a Test, One Day or T20. Is it because the huge Business or Glamour or of Cheer Girls associated to it? But rather I would say; it is all about our ATTITUDE. If we keep up the same ATTITUDE, and start supporting the CWG, then no doubts, the athletes would come up with more number of medals. It is a rare chance in million to have the number of nations play in the home venue and at the same time we cheer for our participants to boost their morale. Obviously, we do not want to see our athlete loose in any events; so let us start supporting and cheer for them to help bag medals of glory for our nation with our changed ATTITUDE.

ALL IS NOT SAME…

New Delhi: No doubt, the Common Wealth Games (CWG) has brought a dramatic change in shaping and placing Delhi in to much more of international standard. This gives imaginative and creative achievements, especially to the Indians as well as the athletes of the 71 participant Common Wealth Nations of the World. The game does not only bring cheers and happiness to the minds of the athletes but also to the people alike who are watching and witnessing this gala event. These days India is dazzling and basking its success as the world media has given a thumbs up to the hosting nation. All were keenly waiting for the much talked inaugural ceremony. India took on wonderfully showcasing its great heritage and rich culture keeping shut the mouth of the critiques.

Now the people are eager to watch for their enjoyment. Athletes are very much enthusiastic to take active and strong participation in different games to fulfill their dreams; at the same time bringing glory and happiness to their own country by bagging medals in their respective competitive events. Keeping aside, the entire activities, public move to watch and witness games just to enjoy and be the part of the historic event. But still on the other hand there are a large number of people who are least worried about this gala happening, for which all is not same.

Life is not the bed of roses for every body, hence the approach and attitude towards life varies from person to person. Something unusual comment we received from a Gupchup seller (pani puri wala) from Kaushambi near Aanand Vihar. For him, “CWG is only a momentary action and after October 14, 2010, all in Delhi will be the same again as it was before, so why to bother and spend all the time on it, which is not even beneficial for like us people”. This was a straight forward thought of a   poor man who has least interest on CWG. He does not bother about what is going on in and around Delhi. The prime concern to him is his family and for this he goes ahead with his petty business to support his family. He comes all the way from Mandi house, to the Kaushambi Park, by 4pm everyday and sells his items till 10 pm., and the life goes on and on. For him life is a challenge, not the Games!

THE UNFORTUNATE KESHAV…

New Delhi: Well, with the inauguration of the CWG-2010, the seven year old boy Keshav from Puducherry is introduced to the international audience; who kept mesmerizing with his Tabla performance in the inaugural ceremony in Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on October 3. He was highly opportune enough to steel the show and be the first shining star among the (about) one thousand drummers who performed along with him in the gala opening. So still the question may disturb us: in spite of using the launch pad of XIX CWG the first ever CWG that India hosted how could he be counted as unfortunate? Yeah…but my story has a very little comparative connectivity to him rather than his awesome performance.

It was nine in the morning of October 4, and I thought to go out from the NISCORT campus to hunt for human interest stories. I headed towards Vaishali sector-II and in a little while I came across a small boy about seven years old, walking opposite to me with a half filled small sack on his back. He was silent and quick enough to spot a garbage site and engaged to pick up small plastic bottles like any other rag pickers. I stopped and watched him for a minute. The uncombed and shabby looked boy was happy enough to identify his item of interest and grabbed with out wasting time. “What is your name?” was that I suddenly uttered to draw his attention as he was gently placing his items in the sack. But I was disappointed…the boy did not even show any reaction rather sped up in his search…after a few seconds I pointed out a bottle that was underneath, he picked and placed in the sack and walked away carrying his belongings. I just looked him for a few seconds and resumed my walk. I was a bit disturbed, not that I was never introduced to this situation but rather to understand his attitude towards life. Had he been born in a well to do family, to rich parents! Had he been given good education, nutritious food and expensive clothing! The imagination was endless.

Comparatively speaking, what I encounter was only a sample to that of thousands of usual incidents of our country. If I could sense right from his point of view; may be he had to collect at least a good number of bottles that will bring him handful of money either to support his family or to meet his necessity, which compels him to think beyond bothering least the Right to Education…and Mid Day Meal. This unhappy incidents act as the guiding force to embrace the label “Child Labor”. Media talks…how often does it talk? to what extent it talks?... does not it only showcase the utter poverty and hunger of this unfortunate ones only to top the TRP rather than to sympathies and bring out a drastic change in clearing off the stigma from the society. In the one hand media is active to bring to the limelight the charisma of Keshav in the CWG opening ignoring the multitude of his age group who are not even aware of their rights. If you permit, can I call this boy the “Unfortunate Keshav”…who only represents a larger group of his kind, working hard to make ends meet, not knowing where to head for a better future?
